Recycling Facility
The collected glass is hand cleaned, crushed, sorted by colour, and contaminants such as paper, metals and porcelain are removed. As soon as the purified cullet has been ground into small particles (10-40mm), it is ready for use in our glass plant - ready to close the glass cycle.
The cullet we use consists of glass containers recycled by consumers and rejected containers from our plant itself. On average, cullet makes up for at least 60% of the batch mixture for new glass containers.
Cullet provides significant environmental benefits. Obviously it lowers the amount of raw materials and therefore chemicals needed, but it also brings down the melting point of the mixture. For every 10% of cullet added to the batch, we can reduce the energy consumption by 2.5-3%.
Many of our glass factories have a cullet treatment plant right next door, or sometimes even on-site, helping to further reduce our carbon footprint.
