At O-I, we use recycled glass to make new glass containers, use fewer raw materials and the manufacturing process itself requires less energy. By using recycled glass, which is called “cullet”, in our operation, we reduce our carbon emissions. The earth loves glass; it’s virtually inert and doesn’t leach chemicals into ground.

This year, for the first time at all O-I sites worldwide, we are celebrating the International Safety and Health at Work on April 28th. We’ll recognize O-I EHS Day. The date aligns with World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is a global recognition by the United Nations’ International Labor Organization. Form Language plays a very important part in packaging design. Consumers are unconsciously drawn towards things that look & feel familiar. It is important that when we design packaging that we take clues from familiar things we know from areas such as architecture, cultural specifics or anything related to what we see in nature.

Glass is an endlessly recyclable material, and is made with recycled glass (called cullet), sand, lime and soda ash – non-reactive natural materials that are safe to reuse – glass can also be made on a closed-loop cycle.

Last week, the official award ceremony of the “Package of the Year 2019” was held in Prague, Czech Republic. The tradition of the one and only certified competition in the packaging industry in the Czech Republic and Slovakia goes way back to the 70s and we are very pleased that we won again! This time, O-I dominated the "Beverages" category and scored with two glass bottles! The award went to our Republica and Myslivecká bottles!

The Starpack Industry Awards have presented a gold award for engineering innovation to O-I : EXPRESSIONS, a new service which builds brand engagement, consumer satisfaction and loyalty as well as demonstrating premium value.

O-I : EXPRESSIONS was awarded the 2019 Ameristar Design Excellence Award. This award recognizes the package that best integrates structure and graphic design. Judges consider how improved functionality can persuade consumers to think about the product in a new way, as well as design benefits such as presentation and findability on a shelf.

O-I's new service has been named the most ‘Promising Launch’ by The Oscar De L’Emballage (Oscars of Packaging) Awards.
The award was presented at the Oscars De L’Emballage Awards ceremony at Elysées Biarritz, Paris on 26 November. The awards are organised by Infopro Digital, publishers of French packaging publication Emballages Magazine, and recognise packaging excellence.
